Synopsis:-
This book follows a mystical story of an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago, who wishes more than anything to travel in the search of a worldly treasure. In his treacherous quest, it leads him to riches that are very different and far more satisfying than anything he can ever imagine!
As we travel with Santiago and watch his journey, it teaches us how listening to our hearts is a pearl of essential wisdom, how to recognize opportunity when it presents itself before us, and most important above all, to follow our dreams.
The Review:-
This book was magical. It was well written and engaged me from start to finish. I loved how the writer seemed to have a bit of everything to capture the reader’s attention no matter who they are! This is one book that I would recommend to any and everyone to read. Not only does it satisfy your reading craving but it inspires you to try to be so much more.
The story starts with Santiago being a shepherd and wants to seek out his dreams after meeting an old king who gives him some important stones and sound advice. The story is quite easy to follow and we feel everything that Santiago feels as he goes about in the desert trying to find his treasure. I think as we follow Santiago, it causes the reader to do a bit of introspection and reflect on what their goals are and how best they can go about achieving them.
One of my favorite scenes would have to be when he was trying to turn himself into the wind. It was an interesting scene because it showed that all things in the universe are connected and I loved the way it was executed. It showed that great things come in a series of small steps and can’t be accomplished all at once. However, when it does happen, it is grand and beautiful.
Although I applaud Santiago, my favorite character would have to be the Alchemist. I like how unafraid he was and how he trusted in the universe around him and God. His confidence was then transferred to Santiago as he taught him simple lessons and then allowed him to go out and find his treasure for himself.
We’ve given The Alchemist a rating of 10 out of 10. I loved this book and I found it hard to find anything that I didn’t like about this book.
Stay tuned for some of my favorite quotes!
“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”
“What you still need to know is this: before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way. It does this not because it is evil, but so that we can, in addition to realizing our dreams, master the lessons we’ve learned as we’ve moved toward that dream. That’s the point at which most people give up. It’s the point at which, as we say in the language of the desert, one ‘dies of thirst just when the palm trees have appeared on the horizon.’ "
