Joanne Kathleen Rowling, better known as J. K. Rowling is a British author who is known globally for her creation of the Harry Potter book series, which became one of the best-selling book series in history. She was born on July 31, 1965, in Yate, Gloucestershire, England, and grew up in Chepstow, Gwent, in southeast Wales.


From a young age Rowling fell in love with writing and storytelling. "I lived for books" she said. She was an avid reader and wrote stories in her spare time. At six years old she wrote her first book entitled "Rabbit" and at elven years old she wrote a novel about people who owned cursed diamonds. Writing created a means of escape and had helped her cope with depression and her mother's passing.


Harry Potter

The idea for Harry Potter came to her while she was sitting on a delayed train from Manchester to London King’s Cross. She has said that she felt compelled to write the story and that it was something that she needed to do. So over the course of the next five years she plot and plan for the book series. Most of it was scribbled down on old scraps of paper. She had moved to northern Portugal to teach English as a foreign language then moved back to o the UK to live in Edinburgh with her daughter Jessica with the first three chapters of the first book in the Harry Potter series.


The Harry Potter series follows a young boy named Harry Potter who finds out that he is a wizard and has been accepted to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Along with his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, Harry navigates the challenges of school and the larger wizarding world, including confronting the evil Lord Voldemort who seeks to take over the wizarding world and eliminate all non-pureblood wizards. Throughout the series, Harry and his friends face various obstacles and enemies, including dark wizards, dangerous creatures, and mysterious artifacts. They discover secrets about their own families and the history of the wizarding world. They also learn important lessons about friendship, loyalty, and courage as they work to stop Voldemort and protect their loved ones. The series has seven books in total. These are:

Each and everyone packed with a thrilling adventure and attention-gripping storyline. All of the books have their glory but the general consensus shows that the most popular book in the series is either "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" or "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." "Prisoner of Azkaban" is often praised for its clever plot twists, memorable new characters, and deeper exploration of the wizarding world, while "Goblet of Fire" is praised for its darker tone, larger scope, and more complex plot that sets the stage for the later books in the series. The series has been translated into over 80 languages and has sold over 500 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most successful book series of all time. It has also been adapted into a successful film franchise, with eight films released between 2001 and 2011.


During her career, Rowling has received many rewards and honors for her writings, such as the Order of the British Empire in 2000 and the Legion of Honor from France in 2009. She has also been involved in charitable work, founding the Lumos Foundation to help children in institutional care.


This author teaches us to be persistent in the pursuit of our dreams. Her path to success was not an easy one. It was filled with trials and hardships, however, with her eyes set on her goals she was able to come out as the victor. Just like Rowling, despite the challenges that come your way, focus on the prize, stand tall, and race toward your dreams.
